Cannot import more than 48 clips

Hello,

I only bought movie studio a short while ago and have only worked on small projects to get to know things. I just started something a bit larger and have found that if I import more than 48 clips the software crashes.

I'm working with mov and mts files. I've tried a project with just mov files, with just mts and with a mix. Maybe just coincidence, but 48 seems to be a magic number. I've looked for a setting, searched the help files and forums but can't work it out. Can anyone help?

After the crash Movie Studio shows a problem report that says:

"Movie Studio Platinum has stopped working"

Need your complete source file properties using MediaInfo.
Need your Quicktime version.

Sorry, I should have thought of that. And thanks, media info is a neat thing to know about. Anyway...

Quicktime version 7.7.4 (1680.86) – apple says there are no more updates.

The folk at Sony support pointed out that I could use the 64bit software, which sounds like a great idea so I installed it but...

If I open my project that has 48 mov clips, the 64 bit version won’t play mov files at all. They show up in the clip window and there are images when I drop them onto the timeline, but when I play them the preview window is just black. Same with opening them in the trimmer – just black.

I open a new file and start adding mov files, everything works fine until I have added more than about 16 clips (these are about 30 second clips). At that point everything previews black again.

And randomly a thing called FileIOSurrogate.exe starts using 25% of my cpu and 4.8GB of RAM is constantly being used. I have to end movie studio with the task manager to get rid of it. That’s all looking a bit odd.

So... no steps forwards, one step back.

Incidentally, I installed the trial version of Cyberlink Powerdirector and it seems to work fine. But I don't want to switch - I like the workflow in movie studio and... I've paid for it!
