Cannot import .vob files

I extracted the main movie from 5 films on dvd using DVDFab. Everything legal, don't worry.

I wanted to open them on Vegas 8 timeline as a way to extract some short sequences for a presentation on an academic work but... i wasn't able to do it.

Vegas 8 can't "see" the vob files. I tryed to grab them directlly from its explorer window but they don't show up.

I tryed to import them using the function "Import Media" but they don't show up either.

I tryed to grab them directly from the Windows explorer and Vegas shuts down.

Is this normal ? Can't Vegas handle .vob files ? If not, what am i doing wrong ?

Thank you in advance for your support.

A couple of things you can try:

* Import directly from the DVD into Vegas: File / Import / DVD Camcorder Disc

* Rename the vob file to .mpg then drag to timeline

Thank you Peter.

Import directly from the DVD doesn't work using the method you sugest. It actualy detects the drive with the DVD film name. Also, it aparently starts the extraction process, but suddenly it shuts the import window down.

Renaming the .VOB files as .mpeg works upon a certain point. Now i can import the first movie file to the timeline, but as soon as i try to repeat the procedure with the second file, i get an exception error and Vegas shuts down.

I also found that changing the Vegas explorer window view to "All Files" makes it possible to "see" the .VOB files and drag them to the timeline. However, the same exception error happens when i try to drag the second file.

Any sugestions ?

should work with renaming. that's how I always handle it.

Does the DVD actually play? You may have a damaged disc which has corrupted the .vob files when you ripped them. That could also be the reason you can't import them directly with Vegas.

You cannot import or edit commercial DVDs in Vegas, period.

VOB files via renaming always seems hit-or-miss for me. Half the time I end up having to use Womble to change over the VOB files, or you could always use DVDFab to rip directly to an avi file.

Look at my several posts in a long thread a few weeks ago, starting with this one:

Frustration extracting DVD files.

This has been discussed dozens of times, and I think you will find most of the answers in the linked thread, especially if you then follow some of the other links given there.
