Cannot render AVCHD to BR

It's a simple 4-minute project with several source *.m2ts clips (from a Panasonic SD9). Rendering to BR consistently crashes or hangs, whether by "make movie" or by rendering using either Sony AVC or Mainconcept. I've also tried limiting streams to 1 and reducing preview memory.

I tried each of these techniques to no avail: http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=646316&Replies=1

I've seen the posts that say VMS is flawed and can't deal with *.m2ts files, and I'm starting to believe them.

Any other suggestions?

My systems specs: core i7/2.66Ghz, 6GB DDR3/1066, ATI 4850, ample disk space.

The AVC encoders crashing on higher resolutions is a known bug and has been discussed to death on this forum, check the previous threads. I am afraid that there's not much you can do, apart maybe from lowering the number of threads to 1, but even then it's not a sure thing that it won't crash. Others have copied/pasted the whole timeline to a new project and encoded from there, but again, it's not a sure thing either.

What you should do is file a bug report to Sony. The more people who have problems with their AVCHD exports tell them about it, the more chances you got for a free, new update of Vegas.

Yer not alone, I also understand that many people think that this forum site somehow has a direct line with Sony. Also that the people here are the engineers that developed the program.

Do we need DVD architect five, or can Vegas burn a blue from Vegas directly? What settings have others used that definitely worked? What avenues did they use that definitely worked? Because waisting blue's t

I used the trial version to work with my Sony SR11 AVCHD files over Christmas, and had definite problems rendering .m2ts files. This was a new 64-bit Vista system, with no codecs other than what came with the system, and whatever Vegas Movie Studio would install.

I researched this, and found that this was a very common problem. Some could work around using MainConcept codec in SVMS9, while others had no problems at all.

I finally broke down and bought it, hoping I could work around it as well. Initially, the problem was just as I had previously experienced it. But then I tried the work-around suggested in this thread here:

As you can read there, it made a major difference for many posters. Well, I'm glad to report that it seems to be working for me. A quick 50-second movie that would cause Vegas to crash at 3% consistently before I applied the fix completed uneventfully after it.

Time will tell if I run into problems with longer projects, but I'm encouraged so far.

Glad to hear it worked for you. I sort of figured it would.... the inner workings of VMS and Vpro aren't that different.

I have had no problems with bigger projects.... as of yet anyway. Even my MSU cartooner effect which tends to bog down Vpro at the best of times seems to flow well... but let me know if what a bigger project does with VMS.

Just did a slightly larger project last night - about 3 minutes. Completed uneventfully.

Using PictureMotionBrowser, I was then able to put the resulting .m2ts file back onto my SR11, and it looked great on my HDTV.

I didn't realize BigBarney and blink3times were the same person!!

Many thanks for this fix which so far seems to be working perfectly!
