Cannot see clips after Importing

Fitz0527 wrote on 1/4/2005, 11:38 AM
Alright I imported some .avi clips that I made with Virtual Dub and compressed with the latest DivX codec. I can view these on windowsmedia player and other programs fine, but when I import the clips to Vegas they do not show.

This is what it looks like: http://www.jacfitzgerald.com/vegasblackscreen.JPG

Why are you using DivX? It's a very troublesome codec.

Use VirtualDub to make a AVI then it will import into Vegas fine. There is nothing to be gained by trying to import a DivX into Vegas (it will open some), but you can't easily render to that file type from within Vegas. So to avoid problems import as a AVI which you should be ediiting in anyway. Vegas isn't a MPEG editor and while DivX is contained in a AVI wrapper its really a flavor of MPEG inside.

vegas renders to DiVX really well -- if you have DiVX pro installed .... but as mentioned - divx is not an editing format (not a very good one at all - due to lack of keyframes and compression)

Well the truth is sometimes hard to accept... but there you have it. At least you have had several very highly respected Vegas editors take time out of their work-day to respond to your question and give you solid advice.

The question is why do you need to bring the rendered Divx back into vegas?

I am making an .AVI for a new game. The thing is my friend has the same exact clips and is using them in his Vegas 4.0 (same version as me) with no problem. It doesnt seem to make any sense whatsoever. Also .mpeg and .mov heck even other .avis besides these ones will play fine in Vegas. Only thing he can think of is his Processor is 32 and mine is 64 i doubt that matters? IRC log
<n|blind-c5> they're already divx codec
<n|blind-c5> when they go in
<n|blind-c5> but then
<n|blind-c5> why do they work in mine?

Now I am confused. You started with AVIs and converted to DIVX so you can make another AVI?

Do you have the same version of DIVX loaded as your friend?
