Cannot Upload to Youtube

I am using Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9.9 (b). When I click on Make Movie, then 'Upload it to the web', then slect the 'You Tube' button, the 'Upload to You Tube screen pops up, but the 'Upload' button at the bottom is grayed out. Even when I fill in all the fields, this 'Upload' button remains grayed out and I can't upload.

What do I need to do to get this button active?

Never trust third party software to do a web browser's work. Web sites are a moving target, as they are updated often. So, just use the web browser to upload videos on youtube.

The upload-to-YouTube feature works for me, even though I don't use it.

Make sure your log-in and password information is correct?

I won't use that option either. Like Eugenia said, there are too many moving pieces involved. Besides, it is good to render the video out, watch it to make sure it is ok before uploading to YouTube. Below is a writeup of specs that I got from Eugenia a while ago. While this will not be the only way, it works great.

Create a customized template using the following specs. Note: this specs produces the YouTube HD 1280 x 720

PROJECT
Video rendering quality: Best

VIDEO
Video format: AVC
Frame size: (Custom frame size) Width 1280 Height 720
Profile: Main
Entropy coding: CAVLC
Frame rate: 29.970 (NTSC)
Field order: None (progressive scan)
Pixel aspect: 1.0000
Bit rate (bps): 5,000,000

AUDIO
Audio format: AAC
Sample rate: 48,000
Bit rate (bps): 128,000

SYSTEM
Format: MP4 file format (.mp4)

I tried to upload to YouTube directly once, and of course it was the usual 'Epic Fail.' So I just do it the old fashioned way. I haven't uploaded anything since YouTube did the HD 1280 x 720. Does Eugenia's receipe work for a project done in HD 1440 x 1080? Thanks. Cin

Yours aspect ratio (1440 x 1080 is 4:3) is different from 1280x720 (16:9) , so I am not sure. If you want to go 16:9, you may have to crop it first or change the pixel shape to rectangle. Or you can use the 4:3 (640 x 480, or your original 1440 x 1080). If you use 4:3, the video will be pillarboxed, that's all.

To change the specs to fit 4:3, just change the frame size from 1280 x 720 to what you want. I noticed that 1440 x 1080 is one of the options in VMS. I don't think you need to raise the bitrates since the web may not be able to handle higher bitrate. But I could be wrong.

Maybe Eugenia can provide more insight into this, but it won't hurt to try both 4:3 and 16:9 on a 10 second clip and see what happen.

1440x1080 has a 16:9 aspect ratio when the right HDV template is used. When exporting for the web though, you should always export at a 1.00 aspect ratio, in this case, 720p.

Thank you Bug for the detailed expanation, and thank you Eugenia for everything. :) Cin
