Cannot write to +RW disc

Graham S wrote on 3/8/2010, 4:01 PM
I’m sorry if this problem has been raised before but I am a newcomer to DVD Architect Studio. I am using version 4.5d, build 107.

I cannot get the programme to write to a +RW disc. Whenever I try, the programme stops and I get the message, ‘The drive has been reset, most likely by another application or due to a SCSI/IDE configuration problem’.

On all occasions the programme recognises the +RW status of the disc in the drive. The brands of the discs used have been HP and Philips, both 4x. Using the same drive, the programme writes OK to +R, -R and –RW discs. I have yet to try writing to a +RDL disc.

I have e-mailed Sony’s technical support about this and up to now their response has been no response. In the absence of any help from Sony, I am wondering if any experienced users of DVDAS could suggest what is causing this problem and come up with a possible solution.

In case it’s relevant, I’m running on Windows XP.

Thanking you in advance,

Graham S

No problems burning Verbatim DVD+RW here. Always best to back off the burning speed.

Musicvid,

Many thanks for your reply.

As you suggested, I did think of reducing the burn speed. Unfortunately, whenever I have tried to write to a +RW disc I only get the option of 4x which matches the specification of that disc.

Here’s another twist. The drive that I have been using to try and burn +RW discs is an internal LG GH22 dual format, dual layer writer. I managed to borrow an external Emprex dual format, dual layer DVD writer. That will burn a +RW disc fine using DVDAS. So, for whatever reason that I don’t pretend to understand, there seems to be a conflict between DVDAS and my LG GH22 when writing to a +RW disc. As I mentioned in my original post, burning a +R, -R or a –RW disc is no problem.

What I find equally disappointing about this is the total lack of response from Sony. I sent them an e-mail on this subject about four weeks ago and since then I have sent two reminders. At the time of making this post I have yet to hear from them. What are the chances of them actually making contact with me?

All the best,

Graham S

Have you tried a Verbatim brand disc?

Can you write +RW on this drive from other programs?

Musicvid,

Unfortunately, I don’t have any Verbatim +RW discs. What I do have are some Packard Bell +RW 1-4x that I’ll try.

I’ll let you know how I get on.

All the best,

DaveT2,

Thank you for involving yourself in this.

I have a number of programmes, DVD authoring and copying, that will burn a +RW disc on the drive in question. It is only DVDAS that will not do so which makes it all the more perplexing.

I still haven’t heard from Sony!

All the best,

Musicvid,

I have just tried burning a project to a Packard Bell +RW 1-4x disc. The results were the same, the burn failed and I got the error message as before. As the disc was a 1-4x, I did try reducing the write speed. Despite the type of disc in the drive, DVDAS would only show the 4x option.

All the best,

Graham S
