I wouldn't import directly from the camera. Use a card reader to copy files to your hard drive first then import media.

Try using the "Device Explorer" under the view menu. Alternatively you could copy them into explorer and bring them into Vegas that way.

You're better off using Device Explorer.

If any of your clips exceed 4GB in size, DE will stitch them. If you just copy the files, you're likely to get audio dropouts at the 4GB boundary.

I can get my clips onto my hard drive but when I import them into vegas I get the audio only, no video. when looking at the properties of vegas I do not see any of my movie ( 0n Canon) sizes listed.
thanks for any advice

Also, when I try device explorer i get a message "no device detected"

If you're only seeing audio it sounds like you are missing a codec.

@Jonathan

Device Explorer takes a while(!) to see a card connected. Be patient. I have seen it take what seemed like 2 minutes.

Also, Vegas 9 wasn't too smart about AVCHD files.... I have had no issues with Vegas 10 or 11 with Canon DSLR files.
