Canon LiDE80 scanner has never worked w/Vegas

Since Vegas 4 (well, 2003, when I bought the scanner) I have tried to scan images directly into Vegas with my Canon LiDE80 USB scanner. I tried with Vegas 5, but gave up for V6 and V7.

Tonight, using Vegas 8, on a lark--and because I need to scan a carload of stills for a slide show--I thought I'd give it another try. Still no luck. Even installed the latest Canon drivers.

The ScanGear CS window opens behind the timeline window, so it's hidden and I have to click on the Start bar to bring it forward, but none of the dropdowns work and I can't change any of the scan parameters. It's stuck on whatever parameters the scanner last used.

The same driver allows the LiDE80 to work perfectly from inside Photoshop CS. Go figure.

The Vegas help file says a dialog box is supposed to open, from which I can select the device (scanner or camera, etc) but no such box appears.

I suppose every other Vegasite has absolutely no problems integrating a scanner, right?

What scanners work with Vegas? Is it just a Canon quirk?

Never really even considered that any scanner would work with any NLE. PS can use twain I think it's called. A NLE, I guess perhaps in theory could too.
What's wrong with just scanning outside of Vegas and saving the files into the one folder?
I usually find anything I scan needs some work done on it anyway and although you can do some of what say PS can do with Vegas it makes way more sense to do it in an image editing application than a NLE. Doing it in a NLE means whatever image adjustments you're making are being recalced averytime you play or render.

I didn't know that you should be able to either.

I just tried on my office machine with a Canon lide90 on Vegas 7.0d and it actually worked.

I myself prefer to scan inside photoshop, but it worked in vegas too :-)

Works fine with a canon LiDE 70 scanner & Vegas 8.0b.
Click File - Import Picture (there is an icon of a scanner next to the menu item). It brings up Canon's ScanGear utility. Scan as normal. When done, the scanned images are already in project media; use in Vegas as needed.

I normally scan to a photo editor too, cause there's almost always some tweaking to be done. But yes, you can do it right from vegas.

You guys are right: scanning to Photoshop or other photo editor is handiest for doing the necessary tweaking.

It just bothers me that I have never been able to get it to work in Vegas with my LiDE80. Might just be this model as other Canons seem to work....

I suggest scanning to the freeware Irfanview. It is a no-hassle way to get images in single, batch, or multipage files.
