I use my dv cam for this, but there have been plenty of glowing reports about using the Canopus Converter with Vegas.

And yes, there is an option under Capture Preferences to disable device control.

yeh it could be i just need the right drivers to recognise it in 2000
the prog i'm using senses thru the firewire to the canopus box and thru that to the dv cam
it senses the dv cam but not the box-adcv100
so i get get the converted anolog to digital signal to be seen unless the dv cam is attached
but then as soon as i go to capture it turns on the dv cam and bypasses the analog conversion section
fabulous
will try your suggestion tho
thanx

I haven't tried this personally, but Vegas' VidCap is supposed to have a menu item to choose between multiple connected DV devices. So, if the ADVC-100 exposed itself (for the analog-to-DV hardware) and the DV camera (connected via Firewire), then VidCap will let you choose between then. On the other hand, if the ADVC-100 hides it's ananlog hardware when it knows there is a DV camera attached, then VidCap won't see it and won't let you choose it, and you'll have to shut down the DV camera to use the analog hardware on the ADVC-100. Anyone know which way this works?

so far nothing seems to recognise the advc 100
so when i follow your last step and turn the dv cam off
the pc tells me there is no device attatched, and therefore won't pick up the converted analog signal anymore

also
i'm using 2000 on my pc
but when i plug the advc 100 into my sony laptop [with 98] with its built in vid cap prog it captures fine from analog
i guess either
because its not flash enough to have all the device control bells and whistles
or
its got some driver that the other os hasnt
in fact it actually built a driver for it

I went through similar problems since getting my Canopus ADVC-100 a few months ago. Sometimes VV3 would recognize it and sometimes it wouldn't. I tried different firewire cards and had the same results. I was running Windows 2000.

A few weeks ago I finally upgraded to Windows XP Professional and I must say I think Microsoft finally got it right this time! Everytime I turn the Canopus on the OS instantly recognizes it and I can capture in Vegas. I also bought a Sony DV camera and just for the hell of it I had both plugged in at the same time. Vegas Video Capture displayed both of them in the menu and I was able to select which one I wanted to capture with.

I'm not usually one to credit Microsoft since I think they've written some terrible OS's in the past but from what I've seen so far, XP is a big step in the right direction.
