Canopus 300 vs proc amp for VHS transfers?

I'd appreciate any comments on the merits of using the Canopus 300 to improve image quality on analog sources versus a video processor such as the Sign Video processing amp. (roughly the same $$ range)

Obviously, I'd need an A/D converter to accompany the processing amp, but how would they compare on the analog improvement when use with typical VHS transfers?

A proc-amp is certainly a good idea so that you can make color corrections as you digitize, but a TBC (Time Base Corrector) is another essential element for quality VHS to DV conversion. The Sign proc amp doesn't have a TBC, but the ADVC-300 at least has a single-line TBC plus noise reduction and proc amp controls. (A full-frame, as opposed to a single-line, TBC would be ideal, but that gets a little "spendy.") Nevertheless, my suggestion is to get the ADVC-300.
