does turning off device control help?

What if you try something like Scenalyzer Live (it's free now)

For capturing HDV you need a deck that's able to play HDV. A normal DV-deck doesn't play HDV tapes despite the HDVcassette is the same size as a DVcassette. Best to capture HDV directly from the HDVcamera using the firewire port. Best HDV capture software is the free HDVsplit.

Yes I have the correct player and i have tried every other capture software , when i change the settings in vegas to 50i it will control the deck but no vision in capture the vision on the deck appears 4:3 . When using HDV and setting on vegas 60i as per the tape shooting then it works perfectly . Just when tape shows 50i . The camera which is no longer working had the option of 60 or 50 .

@dean-w Which type of connection are you using to connect the deck to your system?

dean-w wrote on 12/5/2023, 8:02 PM

Firewire 4 pin works perfect HDV 60i

Settings in Vegas I though might have been the issue except other capture software give various error usually no video signal

To capture MiniDV in Vegas Legacy Capture (emphasis added), turn off Device Control.

dean-w wrote on 12/5/2023, 8:32 PM

In the software or the player

mark-y wrote on 12/5/2023, 9:18 PM

In order to capture MiniDV from an IEEE1394 Firewire device in Vegas, you must first turn Off the Device Control function in the Vidcap60.exe application interface (emphasis added). HDV does not use the same capture utilitiy.

Hope that clears it up for you.

So close but not quite in Vegas 14pro I don't have that option , I'll keep looking I really appreciate the assistance

The player screen

mark-y wrote on 12/5/2023, 10:13 PM

Sir, I showed you the Preferences Screen from the Vidcap 60 application, which is launched from within
Vegas Pro 14.

What you showed me is the Preferences Screen from Vegas Pro 14. Not the same program. Not the same Preferences. You won't find any Vidcap 60 preferences there.

I think you have enough information now to figure it out, I have added emphasis to my previous two comments which have indicated exactly the same thing.

No guarantees since it is a deprecated feature, but best of luck!

Thanks for your help. I incorrectly assumed it was an executable within vegas as I was capturing within vegas . All the best

Made changes its more a hard ware question I'll trial and error the player and see how it goes or just forget the dv tapes

dean-w wrote on 12/5/2023, 10:45 PM

problem is solved , for future reference to anyone , must capture using vidcap60 as stand alone and not through vegas. The control settings still work, and player must be set to DV . I was trying to make it work within vegas. Thank you all for your help.

Other free programs that will do the same thing, still available for download, are SceneAlyzer Live and
VirtualDub.

Yes thanks those failed to work previously because I did not change setting on player . (I also give thanks to chatgpt , who dug up the manual) lol
