Cant mix audio error with firewire

I too have experienced the "unable to mix audio" error when running VV3 with files on a firewire drive. It seems to me that Sonic foundry should patch this problem, not require that we purchase version 4.0 to get relief. If it's fixable in the new version, then it is a software bug that should be fixed and distributed in a patch. Seems a bit unfair to have to fork out more $$ for a software issue.

Any official word on this?

I'm not official, but it's not a 'bug' because it's not consistent. It's due to bad firewire controllers, or due to badly written work arounds on the part of the firewire drive controller. This is why the Oxford 911 controller is becoming standard, because other NLE's both in audio and video are experiencing dropouts, chatter, and other problems with firewire drives. I could be wrong, but my understanding of the software part of the application control would need to be completely re-written from the floor up. I can't imagine SOFO wanting to re-write all of Vegas 3 when 4 can't be that far off. Search the web, you'll see this is a very common problem for many NLE's, and inconsistent for users. I for one, use ADS Tech data tanks that use the Oxford 911 controllers. I NEVER have drop out. My partner has a Maxtor drive/enclosure, and he has skips and audio lockups all the time. Also, the driver in the OHCI card *can* play a role in this. If I put my ADS boxes on his Audigy, and try to load huge files, it too, will drop out. But on my desktop with a Pyro, on my Sony laptop, and on my studio AMD with a SIIG, I NEVER see this problem. And I'm doing heavy video and multitrack audio all day, all the time. It's probably a pain in the A$$ but that's an 1394 standards issue, not a Vegas issue.

I'm using ADS firewire drives with an ADS Pyro and am having the same problem. So, I don't think it's the OHCI card that's at fault.
