cant print to tape

If anybody can help, I'd be extra grateful....I have my first project looking nice when i play it on Vegas, but when I attempt to print it to tape, I get a background with a few "holes" where some of the video appears to be peeking in. there seems to be no audio also. I have followed the info in the help menu as closely as possible. I am stumped.....

Print to tape how? using the PTT tool? Using the capture tool? What is the project? Rendered how? Project settings what? any parent/child relationships?
Hardware? camera/deck device? Analog converter?
A few more details would be helpful

Assuming that you render (preferably in AVI format) and attempt to print to DV camcorder. Those "holes" you observed in preview on camcorder or tv.
If you can see the video working fine before printing - you my have hardware
problem while printing. I would recommend cleaning heads and use different tape and see what happen.

No audio? Are you certain you are doing an actual print-to-tape? Or.. are you just previewing out to your camera from the timeline? The preview window does not send audio out the firewire... just video (which is why I am suggesting this at all). Also... depending on your hardware (processor speed etc) the preview feature will likely not be able to send out full frame rate video to your device... and the video will appear very jerkey.

Describe exactly how you are doing your "print-to-tape"?

This thing about a background with those "holes" sounds very strange indeed. Is the background a part of your project at all.?.. how did you create this video... what should it look like?

I've attempted to print to tape by means of the PTT tool and the Capture tool. I am pretty certain that it is trying to print because the record light on the sony digital handycam is on, even though the camera is in the VTR mode. the file is rendered as an .avi file. it plays fine in Vegas or in WMP8. The firewire cable appears to work fine because the capture was sucessful. The camera has had very little usage and it seems doubtful that the heads need cleaned. the tape was a brand new hi8 tape. my system is powered by a 1.7 ghz AMD athlon XP chip and I have an epox motherboard with the nivideia nforce 2 chipset. What now? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. p,k

I did family tape after thanskgiving and try to add at the beginning some 2 animated stills with sound background. Wneh I was ready to print to tape -the camcorder recorded the original tape, but refused to record the extra.
I try print to tape using video director(XP) and still did not recorded the begining. I added some motion video to begining, render and the all thing printed fine.See if windows movie director will print good and try to add
some motion clip at the beginning.
I still do not know why I could not print the way I want to.

Try turning off device control in Vegas and manually hitting the record function on your camera.

Can you configure your camera to do an external preview from the timeline? If you are not able to preview out via firewire that will also tell us some more about your issues.

Also... a few of us asked some additional specific questions in our prior posts that you have not answered... please go back and look at the prior posts we all made and respond to them.
