When I open Movie Studio, I get a pop up ad to upgrade and a "welcome" screen. I have gone in to Preferences and unclicked these items, and hit Apply, but when I go back, they are both checked. I have tried rebooting laptop. They are extremely frustrating, as I open multiple videos each day and these screens slow me down and are useless. I will never need to upgrade.

yes, I've done this. Not working.
I've unchecked the boxes "Use Newsfeed..." and "Always show welcome screen..." Then I close the software. Then I reboot laptop. Then I re-open software and get a pop up ad and the welcome screen. Both boxes are re-checked. This is so frustrating.
and yes, I hit "apply". They stay unchecked until I close the software and reopen it.
Owch! Sorry my method did not work for you. I've tried mine again . Tick on, apply. stayed on. tick off, apply stayed off. I seem to be lucky.
