You can turn off clip detection in the Video capture prefs. Is this a previously used tape perhaps?

Yes it is a previously used tape. Recorded on a Sony DCR-VX2000 played back on a Sony DV/DVCam VTR (via firewire). Is this related to timecode? Tape not fully being erased over?

If scene detection is on, any breaks in the date/time stamp will cause a new clip to start. When you watch the clips, do they break on scene changes?

Also, VidCap will break clips that are about to run over any file-size limitations, such as 2G (or is it 4G?) on FAT drives.

Finally, under Options > Preferences > Disk Management, there is a setting called "Maximum size per DV clip (MB)" which defaults to 640MB. If this is "checked", you'll get a new clip for every few minutes of DV.

If it's none of these, please tell, what size are these files?

To add to that, there is Options > Preferences > Capture, another setting to change the 'Minimum clip length (seconds)'. I think the default is 2 seconds.

I captured a time-lapse and I ended up with a ton of clips after capture.

If you think that is it, change the value to zero, or uncheck the box.
