Capture Analog with HP Pavilion Media Center?

I open Vegas Capture--it says No Device Selected. Open Capture Preferences, Device, the choices are none, AJA Video Device and 1394. Neither none nor AJA works. I have an SVHS deck connected to the SVHS IN on the front of the machine. I had the deck playing a tape before opening Vegas.

I go to Options, Preferences, Video tab and try both Use external video capture application checked and not checked.

Still No Device Selected.

Any advice?

Thanks!

Though I do not know the answer to your particular issue...

1394 is firewire. If you are seeking to capture via firewire, Windows should be recognizing the firewire device regardless of anything Vegas or otherwise.

I would concentrate on getting Windows to recognize the 1394 device.

You cannot make a valid Vegas capture device selection if the device is not first recognized by Windows.

Just out of curiousity, what sort of cable are you using to make this connection? It does not sound like a firewire setup. SVHS is analog which is not firewire.

If for some reason this hookup you describe is "AJA Video Device" (I do not know what that is) related, unless the AJA device is 1394 compliant, Vegas will not recognize it.

You are using an analog source.
Vegas does not capture from analog devices.

What capture software does your machine natively use to capture from the analog SVHS inputs? See if those files will open in Vegas and report back.

Maybe you could capture in Windows Movie Maker. I have done so with my Hp Pavilion Media center via AV ports on the front from a standard DVD player... Maybe this would work for you?
