Capture and Firewire HD

Windows 2000 running on Dell Dimension 4100, TI firewire card and Cannon Elura DV Camera. Vegas Video - 3.0.

When I connect my Cannon DV camera to the firewire card my firewire HD dissapears. Windows tells me that the device was unplugged.

Any advice on what is happening here please. I see other forum posts where users are working with firewire DH with no problems.

Unfortunately, this is a problem with some Canons and JVCs, in that you can't daisy-chain a DV camera to a firewire hd. The chipset on these devices doesn't share the 1394 bus very well. Sonys don't seem to experience this problem, from my testing using Western Digital and AcomData firewire hard drives. You might want to try a different 1394 port, if possible so that it's not daisy-chained.

The two devices are plugged into the firewire card directly. Do you tink they are daisy-chained internally?

Would a firewire hub help solve the issue as I really need to be able to access both at the same time.

Could I add a second firewire card to my system?

No, daisy-chaining means hooking the DV device to the firewire hd, and the firewire hd to the computer.

I doubt the firewire hub would do anything, but I haven't tried that.

You may want to try another firewire card, 'cause it'll be cheaper than getting a Sony DV camcorder.

You may want to try contacting Canon tech support to get there take since it's a hardware issue.
