Capture card recommendations? - beginner faq, etc.

Greetings everyone, I am new to this forum.

I have decided to jump into the DV authoring arena and have decided to go with Vegas (primarily because of critical reviews and my extended experience with other SF products - Acid & Forge).

Just looking for some recommendations on the capture card I should consider. I have already done a search on this forum and was unsuccessful finding any threads that address this directly.

Also, if there are any quality sites that you can recommend that I can mine to help me get up to speed, I would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

- Lucky

i have a adaptec 4300 firewire card for dv capture almost 3yrs, never had a problem.
if you want a good video A/D converter for capturing, take a look at the canopus advc-50 and advc-100, i have friends using them with great result.

Do you have a camcorder/ DV VCR with firewire? If so, all you need it a firewire card! However, if you don't, I recomend NOT to buy an analog capture card, but buy a firewire card and an Analog-DV converter. SoFo has them listed on their site and there is one in the forum that most people recomend. If you did that, you would be spending about $150 more then just an analog capture card, but could capture Analog and DV.
