i´m on a lookout for a capture card with the codec onboard,
i´m not in video editing i´m just using as a PW.
my projects are usually pretty big and i´m actually here for some advise on the video side to this..
i´ve got 11 years on my back of Pro Tools , and i discovered Vegas as a Audio PP, and ohh maann,,, i´ts beautyful but one flaw,,, my cpu needs to be with all its´threads on sound not on video, so..... any ideas on a capture card that would do my work..
current video gear :
Promax (Convergant) sdi dv converter) but is connected on FW and so CP is const working its ars off playing video
4TB raid Fiber

A codec isn't a 'thing', it's a method of encoding / decoding.
That aside I;m having some problem working out just what your problem is. Simplest solution would be to throw more CPU power at it. Still with fibre channel you've got very fast drives, I assume you have CPU power to match and only one track of video will not chew up that much CPU power if you send the video stream out to a firewire device like the SD Connect, unless you're adding FXs then all that's happening is the data stream is being demuxed and feed out the 1394 port.
Maybe you're doing something a bit oddball, maybe your problem can be solved with nothing more than rejigging your workflow.
