Capture difficulties

ruavdude wrote on 8/15/2001, 9:41 PM

The equipment: VV2.0g, 1394 card, Sony D/A converter box, Soundblaster 5.1 Platinum, JVC GYDV500 camcorder and DVHS1U deck (mini DV and SVHS dual well).

The situation: Capture won't import audio from either source (doesn't seem to recognize the Soundblaster), won't import video thru the RCA (via the Sony box), won't import anything from the camcorder.

The solution: ask you folks for help! I'm about 5 days into using VV, finally, and this forum has already been a terrific help! TIA.

Steve,

What error messages do you recieve? Have you successfully captured any video? You may want to make sure you are using VideoCapture 2.0e before getting down to hardcore troubleshooting, just to be sure you are using the latest update. You can get it here:

Thanks Nate. I'll try the download of version e.

I don't get an error msg at all. Just nothing. I finally did get preview audio (somehow that seems a misnomer) but the sound card isn't active under the Audio menu at all.

Thus far I've only been doing video only, aside from the tutorials. My first VV project is physics demos, with VO only, no SOT at all. The VO is all recorded on VHS for practical reasons in my studio setup here.

And, the tutorials are pretty great!

OK, Nate....thanks again for the hint, but, no go.

Downloading the Capture update gave me horrendous errors when opening VV. The capture didn't work either. So, I uninstalled v2.0e, reloaded from the CD, and VV worked again. Then, go to Capture, it worked once. I didn't do anything but change to another file, and it stopped working.

This is really strange, and frustrating. I tried recording the VO straight to a VV track, but nothing was recorded. Now, for some reason, I'm not even able to capture DV, much less SVHS and audio. *sigh*

If you update to Video Capture 2.0e, make sure you have the following installed as well:

Vegas Video 2.0g
Microsoft DirectX 8
Video Capture Update for DirectX 8

Please give it a try with all of these and let me know if you still have problems.

Also if you are using the Sony DA-2 box make sure you turn off DV device control in the preferences.

Ah! Ivan just uttered the magic words. Thanks!
Thanks to Nate and SonicEPM (dave??) for their assistance as well. Even with the silly problems I've been having, I'm convinced this is far and away the best software on the market, dollar for dollar or any other way of comparison.
