Capture Drive

My computer has two hard drives, C: and D: My Movie Studio program is on C: and I initially set D: as the capture drive. My latest capture, however, wound up on the C: drive, and when I looked at video capture properties under the Disk Management tab, I saw that there were 5 capture folders there, 3 of them under C: (one checked, which is where my latest capture files ended up) and two folders, both checked, under D:. Why have my captures been creating new folders on the C: drive? And why did I have two checked capture folders on D:?

Is this clear as mud? What should I be doing to make sure all my captures go to the D: drive?

This is the information you wanted. Sorry for the completeness but I copied it from the manual I edited and it was just easier this way than rewriting it.

Capture method to a specific folder
1. If you have not already done so, connect your video camera to your video capture card using the cable provided with the card or camera and use the AC adapter not the battery. Put the tape to be captured in the camcorder. Do this before starting Movie Studio.
2. Set the camcorder to playback. A dialog window may display. If it does, click Take no action then click OK.
3. Start the Sony Vegas Movie Studio Program. When the Show Me window displays click Close.
4. In the Media Pool tab, click the Capture Video button. The Sony Video Capture window will open.
5. The Verify Tape Name dialog box will display. Type a name for the tape, which is really the name given to the captured clips. Click on the button in front of Don’t capture any clips right now, then click Ok.
6. Click Video (a menu item). Click Microsoft DV Camera and VCR (or the input device you are using).
7. Click Options (a menu item), then Preferences, then Disk Management.
8, Click in the box in front of the hard drive’s letter where the captured video is to be stored then click Add Folder. The Browse For Folder dialog box will open.
9. Browse to the hard drive letter. (That will be C: if you have only one HD or some other letter if you have two.) And click on it to select it; it will turn blue.
10. Click Make New Folder. Type a name for the folder, press the Enter key then click OK. The Preference window will show. If you want to make other folders to organize the clips and keep the folders in sequential order precede the name with 001, 002, etc.
11. Remove any checks except the one preceding the new folder; click Apply then click OK.
12. The preview window will display Device Stopped.
13. Click the play button. The tape will start and the picture will show in the preview window.
If Video Capture does not have device control of your camcorder, press the Play button on the camcorder.
14. When you see the video you want to capture click the Capture video button.
15. Click the Stop button when the capture is complete then click Done.
