Capture freeze

I have a new Canon HV30. Running PAL HD. Win XP SP2. VMS Platinum 8.0d.

I turn on the camcorder, connect 1394 cable, get a connection.

When I run video capture, the capture window opens. As soon as I try to play the video or record, VMS freezes.

I've installed the 2 MS fixes, without improvement.

My 1394 drivers are:
enum1394.sys
ohci1394.sys
1394bus.sys
nic1394.sys
arp1394.sys
.... all are version 5.1.2600.xxxx

I've read a lot of stuff on MSDV.sys problems but I'm not sure if this is used or if it is relevant.

Can anyone help please ?

Well I rolled back to the old version of MSDV.sys, installed 3 MS patches, including one to take the 75% speed reduction with XP SP2 back up to normal plus a bunch of other bits and pieces ... but it turned out to be a faulty 1394 board ... a $29 fix.
