So far I have been using a great little program called Scenalyzer (http://www.scenalyzer.com/main.html) to capture SD directly to a PC or Laptop.
I wonder if there's such an application out there to capture HDV (or AVCHD) the same way.
Why not just use Vegas? That's what I do on my laptop. I love Scenalyzer for DV, but for HDV, HDV Split may produce HDV video that won't play back as fast on the Vegas timeline.
Is there a reason you are NOT using Vegas to capture HDV??
Well I don't use Vegas to capture HDV because on my laptop it doesn't work. What I get with Vegas's HDV capture is multiple small captured clips, each a second or less in length.
HDVSplit works well for me. I understand that for other people however, the Vegas HDV capture is the better of the two.
What I would recommend is to try both the Vegas HDV capture and HDVSplit, and see which one works better for you.
Either way, don't forget to turn off your virus protection (as well as any other unneeded background processes) while you capture HDV. It makes a significant difference in the number of errors you will get in your capture. You won't notice these errors while you are capturing video. They will show up later as Vegas crashes when you try to use the clips in a project.
