Capture Issue with trial software

Hello all,
I have downloaded the Vegas v8 trial software and using the capture utility built into vegas with my HDR-FX1e. If i capture just DV from my FX1, i can set up in & out points for the capture of individual scene takes etc which is great and very helpful.
If i try capturing in HDV, all of the in / out bits & pieces are greyed out and are unusable leaving me with the only capture option of manual intervention scene by scene. Very annoying and time consuming.
Is there any reason why these tool's are not available to my FX1 OR to HDV capture ???

Thanks in advance for any help

Paul

Hi Paul

I have not tried to capture HDV yet in Vegas 8, but you could try this free utility:

It is quite good, and you can then import directly into Vegas.

there is NO time code capture in hdv. you capture either whole tape, or scene split. the latter is apparently problematic in vegas.

i simply capture whole tapes, then cut in trimmer.

haven't the time or patience to try spooling near where i want then hitting capture in vegas.

it's been mention quite often, especially by bob, that the capture app in vegas is pretty awful, and showing it's age.....

Not sure I agree with this. I just transferred some HDV (3 tapes worth from my new HV30 and V8 split the m2t files at every point the camera was paused. Completely automagic. I also had to manually split one tape into separate takes because the camera was never paused for about 45 minutes, but that's expected.

Perhaps some of this depends upon the make of the camera?

Well,
Today seems to be a revelation in more ways than one.

ULFlaursen - Downloaded this utility and it detected the scene changes while capturing without having to set start & stop times etc - certainly done a nice job too - Thanks

The other revelation was with respect to the statement by ' grh ' - So i tried the same thing he/she said and hit the record button within vegas and just let it go and, what do ya know. vegas also detected the same scene changes as the other utility and automaticlly placed each clip in the media tab with their own file names.
Thanks ' grh ' , i did'nt expect vegas or any other utility to detect scene changes and react correctly to them as it has. This is fab, way quicker than setting start/stop times in advance of a capture even.

Thanks very much everyone for your kind help, im definately sorted out now

Many Regards to all

Paul
