Capture Issues

Hello Again Sony Vegas Users:

Got a capturing problem - I've been trying to capture some 1 - 2 min video pieces from my camera. I have a Sony DCR-TRV18 MiniDV camera (firewire) and the problem is, instead of capturing the whole piece, Vegas is splitting it up into several clips. I went back through the capture preferences, and I do not have either the minimum clip length or maximum clip length options checkmarked and after checking this several times, and seeing that I don' t have these options activated, Vegas is still splitting things into several small clips. If it makes any difference, I'm also running Windows Vista Home Basic, 32 Bit, Service Pack 2 on my computer, a DELL Inspiron E1505 laptop.

I'm wondering if I need to: a)uninstall and then re-install Vegas, or b)use an alternate capturing program and just import the pieces. Looking forward to hearing back. Thank you all very much.

Best Regards,

CriticalEye

It sounds as though Vegas is capturing each scene as it was taken with the camera. To get around this go to Capture and click the Advanced Tab then choose the option for Batch Capture (remembering to click the left hand Hangman to mark the first and last frames you want to capture and, after each one, click the Log.)When you've done Vegas will capture each of these events separately no matter how many camera scenes may have been involved.

Hello CE:

On Movie Studio 9 Platinum Pro Pack, there are two capture options -- DV and HDV. For each you can set your capture preferences to "Enable DV Scene Selection" or "Enable HDV Scene Selection," respectively.

If this box is checked, the capture will automatically create a new clip for every start/stop on your camera. If it is unchecked, the capture will create one big clip. At least I think that's what happens. I myself have never unchecked the box because I prefer having a clip for each time that I press start and stop.

Is this what you are talking about? Do you want one big clip instead of multiple clips? The "Enable" setting might do this for you.

You must poke around a little in the "Capture Preferences" menu to find these settings.

In DV capture it's
Project - Capture Video - DV - Options - Preferences - Capture. After that it should be the first item in your list of options.

In HDV capture it's

Project - Capture Video - HDV. Now look in your capture window and to the extreme left there is a small icon that looks like a "Play" button (a solid black triangle pointing to the right). Hover your mouse over that and it should say "Capture Preferences." On the "General" tab it's the last item on your options list.

Hope this helps.
