Capture Limit?

I'm trying to capture an entire 4 hour vhs tape, the capture works great until it just stops capturing and asks me what i want to do with it. It stops right around 10min and 17sec, or 4.1GB. Is there a limit to how big a capture can be? Is there a way to get around this? I've got a P3 1GHz 20GB+120GB+120GB, i even tried using a 120 as the operating system thinking maybe a temp capture file was still going to the c: drive. I look forward to hearing from someone, thanx.

IF your drive is formatted as FAT 32 then there is a 4GB limit, if it is formatted as NTFS there should be no limit. There is also a Maximum Capture Length setting in the preferences in the capture utility that you might want to make sure is turned off also.

You can only do it if you're running Windows 2000 or XP if you have 98, 95, or the dreaded ME you are stuck with FAT 32.

What format are you capturing to? I don't think it's DV .avi because that would be about 19 minutes for 4GB. If you were capturing to DV then the VidCap program would automatically extend the capture into sequential files of 4GB each without dropping a frame. These sequential files could then be dropped onto Vegas' timeline seamlessly.

You can capture analog in Vegas(VHS) from internal video card or external box and Vegas will cut the file every 4gig. While sometimes it does work good, you get to clips where the split my be visible and unwanted.
I would recomend to convert to ntfs. Then you can capture as much as you want to in avi format. Learn about ntfs file system before you decide to convert. If you are using some dos commands or want to get to your hd from dos-the dos will not see the hd in ntfs format.Fat32 will not see the hd and files. Alternative option is to capture in mpeg2DV, bbut you my loose some details. Try and see what happen.

I have been "stuck" with WinME - 4 gig limit - for 3 years. I've captured and printed to tape loads and loads of 4gig plus sized videos. I've used the Dazzle Hollywood bridge and done all this on a Dell laptop with 256ram and on a PIII running at 1ghtz. It all worked. No problems with the GIG limit. I haven't seen any joins or bumps in the footage . . . . or in the Cap and PTT procedure. Anything that did happen was down to Pilot error and/or the Dell doing something else.

But, things have changed now that I'm on XP-PRO - oh, so that's how Vegas works - hah!
