Capture Preview Doesn't always work

Hello,

I have a Canon Elura 85 w/IEEE 1394. I use a laptop for my video work (P4 3.2GHz, 1GB RAM, ATI Mobility 128MB, 17" display). It has plenty of horsepower, however, sometimes when I'm doing a capture, the preview window is black with nothing in it. This happens with the Sony capture utility, Intervideo WinDVD Capture as well as WinDV. If I reboot the computer, all is well for a while but it eventually goes back to doing that. I should mention that although the preview is black, the capture is still done normally.

Anybody have any idea what causes this and how to resolve it?

Brian

I have a slower machine than you - and I often see such things - it seems as if VMS is running in several processes - where some of them have the responsibility for showing the i.e. preview and all the media in the time-line tracks. I think, that theese showing processes have a little lower CPU-priority than other (eiting, capturing), and that this is the reason that we some times see a delay in the showing of previews or time-line pictures.
