Capture Problem: Loud Noise in Device Select Windo

Capturing from a Panasonic PV-GS400 and GS-180 using firewire, never had this problem in v.9, but now I can't capture anything in v 11. All connections made, I click File>Capture and the device select window appears with my camera in it, and immediately begins a pulsing 'boing, boing' noise about once a second, each louder than the last until it's deafening. My camera has no VCR mode, so I use video PLAY. Here's the odd thing: Using MovieMaker, it captures fine, but it gives me one long movie, and I need individual clips for Vegas MS. So the c9onnections are fine, the camcorder works okay, and the capture is successful, but it won't work in Vegas. I found no settings or preferences to change - nothing. After two tech-support tickets, Sony says this version (2011) isn't supported. They offered no help. Anybody have a clue what to do?

Hm, can't help you directly, but if you still have version 9, why not capture with it, and do the edit in v11? Does the problem persist?
Second, as far as I remember, Vegas' capturing programme through firewire, is the same for version 9 and version 11.
You may have a hardware malfunction: the cable, the firewire card/connection, or even a motherboard malfunction. This type of weird effect is typical of a hardware malfunction. (I once had issues with my desktop pc for over a year - weird screens even at startup/bios - until I upgraded my graphics card. Then all symptoms were gone. Close inspection showed that the old graphics card had overheated.)
Before doing anything radical, try capturing through firewire with all usb devices (mouse, keyboard....) physically removed.
