Capture problems...

Any thoughts on this one...

I changed out my firewire card over the weekend-- I bought a Pyro BasicDV, and removed a dual USB2/Firewire card, which had been working well-- except that it would occasionally eject my USB2 external drive randomly.

But Vegas won't recognize the Pyro card... or the camera the I use as a VTR(which had also been working fine), at least as far as I can tell. The error message in VidCap is simply 'Cannot connect to USB/Dual Mode Camera.'

So I put the USB2/firewire card back in... and Vegas is giving me the same problems.

It's an old computer (800 mhz, 512 ram, etc.), with a Pyro card & I'm trying to input with a crummy little ZR-40. Any thoughts?

David.

Did you try to "manually" uninstall the firwire drivers and than reboot? (Device manager > IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controllers > [WHATEVER CARD YOU HAVE LISTED] Right click and choose uninstall. Also you should go down to the Network adaptors > 1394 Net Adaptor and do the same for that. Reboot and let Windows auto detect, is it autodetecting? And open Vegas and see if that does it. Make sure you select the firewire/camera as the source in the settings and click on "reconnect to current device" if it doesn't pop up. It sounds like you still had the dual card USB drivers installed as well if you were getting 'Cannot connect to USB/Dual Mode Camera when using the Pyro card...or is the camera a USB camera?

This was actually the first thing that I tried. No luck-- also, the device driver listed is correct. I tried another driver... still no luck.

Yes.

And open Vegas and see if that does it. Make sure you select the firewire/camera as the source in the settings and click on "reconnect to current device" if it doesn't pop up.

I've tried that too-- the ONLY device that pops up in the device manager is the
USB/Dual Mode Camera. I'm not even sure WHAT that is, to be honest with you. There's no generic firewire listed. 'Reconnect to current device' doesn't do anything. I've tried it both ways-- starting Vegas, then the camera, and vice versa.

It sounds like you still had the dual card USB drivers installed as well if you were getting 'Cannot connect to USB/Dual Mode Camera when using the Pyro card...or is the camera a USB camera?

That was my thinking, but the driver listed for the hardware was apparently the correct one-- it's the one that the manual said that windows should default to. And no, it's not a USB camera...

Does your camera show up in any other software ok? Are you running XP? If so does it come up ok with Windows Movie maker? if not there are a few free tiny little programs you can try - WinDV - http://windv.mourek.cz/ is very simple. Media Player Classic - http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=82303&package_id=84358 is based around the old windows media player but does a lot lot more, including capture.

Then there is SCLive - http://www.scenalyzer.com/main.html. It isn't free but there is a free demo.

if any of these programs will read your card/camera than there is something going on with the VidCap mod. If none of these will read it than there is something going on with the card and/or drivers.
