Big topic for a forum post. Go directly to the web and order Douglas Spotted Eagle's book, "Vegas 4 Editing Workshop." Begin at the beginning and enjoy. It has taught me something almost on every page. You can go the specific topic of capturing, etc. if you wish.

Hang in there, Vegas will exceed your expectations. DGrob

This may seem too obvious - read the manual.

Second obvious thing - do a search here in the forums.

Next - still have basic questions such as "How do I capture?" "How do I render?" "How do I change settings in Vegas?" than re-read the manual because you must have missed it.

And finally if you still don't get it than there are a few things out there to help. DSE's book and GK's dvd's.

I definately aggree and highly recommend this book. I consider this book an invaluable tool. It's the "Vegas 4 For Dummies" to me.

"wen i capture, and render video, it isnt perfect quality."
What are you rendering to( mpeg1, mpeg2, avi)? The settings for each one of these will yield different results. It may not be the media player or the capture settings. It may be the render settings. Again, refer to the manual or DSE book.

What is the source for your video capture? VHS tape, Hi8, DV, Beta SP? Also, what method are you using to get it into the computer? DV Camcorder pass through? Capture card (if so, which one)? Dazzle bridge?

Some capture methods can be considerably changed (for better or worse). Others are pretty much "cast in concrete." Without knowing these things it is pretty tough to advise, other than provide the excellent, albeit generic advice already offered.

Aje,

This is for you

http://toolbar.google.com/

It's the Google Toolbar, the best way to find out stuff. It installs a Google search box right in every browser window you open.

When you see something like

"Go directly to the web and order Douglas Spotted Eagle's book, "Vegas 4 Editing Workshop."

You just copy the book title, google it and within 5 seconds you have the first link pointing to the Amazon web page selling the book and a ton of other links about it.
