Capture question

From an analog camcorder, I capture with a Pinnacle card. I've found that Pinnacle creates an AVI file. When I bring that directly into Vegas, I only get the audio. So I've been creating an MPEG then bringing that into Vegas and then making an MPEG2 for DVD Architect. I know it's a bad idea to render an MPEG into another MPEG, but is there a way to get the Pinnacle AVI into Vegas directly? Maybe I missed something. Probably.

You need to download an MJPEG codec. You can find some of them on the web.

My guess is, check your properties of the Pinnacle card. You may only be capturing audio. I don't own a Pinnacle card but I've seen similar properties on my card.

Thank you for your suggestion. I will check that. It's got to be something obvious that I've overlooked. I appreciate your help.

Is there one that's better than the rest? I see Morgan M3JPEG and others. How do I choose among the ones I find? Thank you for your advice.

Pinnacle does capture video. I can play the AVI file fine in Windows Media Player. It's just that when I import the same file into Vegas4.0 and drag it onto the timeline, only the audio is accepted, no video. What could be causing that?

I'm at a loss for words. If you just got Vegas 4.0, I know I couldn't use mine with the CDs that came supplied with the box set. I had to go to (Sonic Foundry at the time) and re-download the entire program in order to get a working version. I'm assuming you've done this, but just in case you haven't, there is version 4.0e available from Sony. Also, scan your disc for 'errors'. I couldn't make a DVD and after 5 attempts, I finally found 4 errors on my drive and after 'fixing the errors' it worked just fine. Mine automatically loads both video and audio when I drag and drop AVI into timeline. Maybe just re-installing the program might work. I never had a problem with this in any way, so I'm just guessing. Good luck.

I downloaded the Morgan(I think that's the name) MJPEG codec, and that solved the problem. Thank you very much for that timely piece of advice!

Good ideas. I went ahead and downloaded and installed the upgrades for VV and DVDA, and I'm defragging the hard drive right now. We'll see if that improves things. Thank you very much for these suggestions.
