Capture question

I should know the answer to this but I don't. I have miniDV material that was captured on a DVX100a Panasonic camera. I now need to load this to my hard drive for editing. I don't have a proper DSR-type unit for loading, and the DVX camera was borrowed and is now back with its owner. So I need to use my Panasonic consumer grade miniDV to load the material into vegas. What are the qualitative issues here?

The quality will be identical. What you are doing is capturing exactly what is on the tape onto your hard drive. Essentially there should be no difference at all in quality.

"I have had problems playing DV tapes recorded on a different camera. "

miniDV format should play fine on any minDV format cam..
However, any chance these tapes you are using were recorded in say, LP mode (so ~90 minutes vs standard 60m in SP mode)?

LP is same quality from what i know - main problems with data integrity though since you are 'squeezing' the data closer on tape to get more
data (minutes) on there...

Your miniDV player might be having problems reading it in LP mode

Of course,,, maybe it was recorded in 24P frame mode?
Could be a problem with dirty heads on your minidv player

I dunno.. going to need more info to help ya Scifly2
