Capture Stops a few seconds in

Hi all,

i just finished a project...it went great...i rendered and burned and now i'm done that one. however, now i am on another project...trying to capture from the same tape but now the capture freezes at about 10 seconds or so everytime i try to capture..i haven't changed anything...then i have to restart my PC to get the program to recognize my camera again...
very frustrating cuz it worked perfectly last week

Hi Toxic9000,

Something had to change if it worked last week.

You might try shutting-down any TSR-type apps running while you capture. Disabling any network stuff might help too.

A defrag might be in order.

Did the target-drive for the capture change, or fill-up? Did you launch Vegas with a drive disconnected recently? You might check the drive settings for capture, temp, prerender, etc.

i'll try some of that stuff..
i defragged last night but that didn't seem to help.
I don't know what TSR-type apps are :) i=newb
no network connected...installed new sony clie thats all i've changed
and all i can find for target drives is the main capture drive in options not the temp or prerender drives...where are those...?
what i dont understand is why the VV won't recognize my camera (hitachi vm-d865LA digital-8) unless i reboot)

We have had nothing but trouble with PDAs. Don't know about the Clie', in particular, but others cause problems SOMETIMES. It depends on what the Operating System decides to do with the PDA is installed.

You might find that installing the Clie' changed something. It has drivers which might interfer with Vegas Video, and the Operating System may be seeing it as a drive, which might cause other drives to change their names (letters) to accomodate the Clie'. Check those things out.

The worst part about that is that if the Clie' is plugged in, it may register as a drive, changing other drive names. Then, when you unplug the Clie' it might change those names back. This all depends on where the Operating System decided to add the Clie', before or after existing drives. It is SUPPOSED to add new drives like PDAs AFTER existing drives, but it sometimes gets confused.

Check where Vegas is looking for renders and prerenders now, compared with before.

Try reinstalling VV.

You might wish to uninstall the Clie' and see if Vegas again. You might have to reinstall Vegas, afterwards, to test this idea.

thanks...that all sounds very possible...just a question though...
how do i find out where i'm prerendering and rendering...
i usually save my render to a different drive than the install drive but prerender i'm not sure about

I am not on my video editing computer now, and don't remember exactly. I believe that under the FILE menu there are some preferences, and under the TOOL menu there are some OPTIONS or preferences. I believe you set all that in one or both of those places.

Hi Toxic,

The Temp files folder is set in Prefs, the prerenders and recordings are set in Project Properties.

Capture folders are set in Vegas Capture prefs.
