Capture suddenly doesn't work

Hi,

I hope you can help me with this, coz it's driving me mad!

I've been happily using Vegas 4 for ages, capturing and printing to tape fine.

My problem is that I can no longer capture anything using Vegas VidCap (4 or 5), this is a new problem, I have successfully captured loads of footage in the past on the same machine using the same OS config.

All of sudden it doesn’t work, I get the following error message:

“The device ‘Microsoft DV Camera and VCR’ could not be opened’.

Here’s what’s weird:

1) It’s always worked fine up until now

2) When I power on the camera it appears in the device manager under “imaging devices” using the correct Microsoft driver

3) I’ve reinstalled Vegas (numerous times)

3) Other capture programs (e.g. AmCap) work fine, I can control the cam fine.

4) The firewire lead and camera are fine, I’ve tried them on different systems

5) I’ve tried various powering on camera before vegas / powering off combinations as recommended by the Vegas help.

6) I’ve removed any conflicting other DV software.

This has to be some sort of Vegas issue because capturing works generically.

Please help because I’m stumped!

Are yo uusing your camera as a pass through to encode off of VCR or something like that? I was and I couldn't get it to see the video coming into the camera. It kept waiting for video from the tape in the camera.

I shut off the DV control option in the video capture settings and it straightened things out.

If on the other hand you are capturing from the camera itself then I don't have any suggestions for you.

Thanks for replying, I'm not using the camera as a pass through.

I tried turning off DV control option in capture settings, no joy.

Here's the even weirder thing, I can print to tape fine in Vegas???

I had an episode once where I had my cam selected to "card" for stills instead of "tape." Got the same sort of error you're getting. Took me sometime to figure it out. Hope you get it working. Darryl
