Capture to MPEG-2

Anyone recommend a good method for capturing straight to mpeg-2? I know a guy who's been asked to transfer oodles of VHS and client doesn't need anything more than straight DVD's - Wondering if there's any software out there you've had good luck with or if I should just recommend a DVD recorder to him?

I bought a DVD recorder+VCR combo and whenever I get a client wanting just a straight transfer, I use it. From there I use a duplicator if multiple copies are needed. I think I have a Go Video unit.
