Capture Video ?

Hello- I am new to the video side of things and need some help. My Sony 8mm camera is acting up and I'm afraid that if I don't try to get this footage of my family on the computer then I soon will be out of luck when the camera really takes a $#@%! I plan on buying a Digital camera to replace this one but right now I need to know what to buy to get the 8mm video I have now into the computer so I can take advantage of Vegas Video. I have been looking at some of the Dazzle products but really want to ask all of you for help here. Your time is much appreciated. Thanks Tim

Get a Sony TRV17 and connect analog device to the DV device and you should be able to capture DV into the computer. This way you get the footage into the computer and have a DV camcorder. Else you can get the Sony DA2 transcoder box for less $$ than a DV camcorder, but then you won't have a DV camcorder.

I'm also a Sony camcorder fan. If the budget won't stretch to include a mini-DV cam, then you could buy a Digital8 cam (same digital quality, although the lenses may not be quite as good as Sony's mini-DV series), which can digitally record the S-Video input from your 8mm cam and also could play your 8mm tapes if your old cam takes a dive into the dirt.
