Capture Video

I am using Sony Vegas Movie Studio 8. When I try to cature video from my DCR-TRV720 Digital Handycam, I get a pop up window titled "Sony Video Capture", followed by a warning window with this message: The device "AVerMedia 23888 Video Cature" could not be opened. Please make sure that it is turned on and is not being used by another application or user.

When I click ok, the title of the window changes to "Sony Video Capture 6 - Default*". The preview is turned off and the options I can select in the options menu are "Connect to current device" and "Preferences".

Will someone please tell me how to capture video with this program. I am at a loss.
Thanks.

You start by connecting your camera with a 1394 firewire cable and turning it on. Then select the Microsoft 1394 capture device.

Some people say it's better to connect the camera, turn it on (switch it to playback mode if it defaults to record), THEN turn on your computer. YMMV

I've tried connecting the cable and turning the camera on, turning the camera on and connecting the cable, turning the camera off and back on, and rebooting the computer with the cable connected and the camera on.
Every time I try and capture video from Vegas Movie Maker, I get the error message. Where do I select the Microsoft 1394 Capture Device?

If that other device keeps popping up, disable it in Windows Device Manager.

Are you sure your are connecting via a firewire cable to an IEEE 1394 port?
Do you have an IEEE 1394 Firewire card or port on your computer?

That's what I was thinking but the DCR-TRV720 doesn't have a USB port so there's not much confusing it. Did you turn the cam on to VTR mode.

Are you by any chance using Windows 7? If so, first try installing legacy firewire drivers (Google for how to).
