Capture Video question

Can I capture in different format than uncompressed avi file? e.g. in windows media video (.wmv). I know the quality issue but with what I've been trying to do my bigger concern is size of the file not a quality. I'm trying to get a file as small in size as possible during capturing. If yes, how can I change properties of capturing file.

If you are capturing from a composite line in, then you don't want to use Vegas for the capture. There are numerous free capture programs you can download from the net, or you can buy scenalizer or some other capture program. If you are going to be doing a lot of analogue capturing, you might consider buying one of these.
