captured AVI files are splitting into TWO A/V files - PLEASE HELP!

My problem is this:

I capture video in Premeire 6.0 (Matrox card) due to our configuration at work, i HAVE to do it this way. Being that I can't stand Premiere - i then edit the avi files in Vegas (my NLE of choice) and bring the edited final avi file back into Premiere if I need to dump it to tape. (it's a goofy setup, i know - trust me, I use Vegas at home, love it, and tried everything here at work to make it work without having to use Premeire also, no good).

ANYWAY, I"LL GET TO THE POINT...

When I capture, through Premiere, (because I cannot caputre through Vegas due to the Matrox/Premiere configuration) - the avi files come in automatically as two files. One just video. And the other just audio. This becomes a pain when editing in Vegas. IS THERE A SETTING IN WINDOWS SOMEWHERE that is causing the avi files to be split? Or perhaps it's a Premiere issue (although i've already done EXTENSIVE reading and experimentation with no luck in Premiere).

If you don't know THIS issue - let me pose one final question for an alternate solution. IN VEGAS, IF AN AUDIO AND VIDEO EVENT ARE UNSYNCED, CAN I GROUP THEM TOGETHER (LOCKED) SO I CAN THEN MOVE THEM BOTH AROUND THE TIMELINE FREELY? I tried selecting both then go to create a group, and that doesn't seem to work. And if i lock them, I can't move them on the timeline. I'm at a complete loss here. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thank you one and all!

-Dan

P.S. Forgot to mention, i'm using P4 1.7GHz, 256Ram (i know, i know), Windows 2000 Pro SP4, Adobe Premiere 6.0.1, Vegas 4.0e, and a Matrox RT2500.

Highlight both events, do CTRL-G.

Be sure your "Ignore Event Grouping" (on the toolbar) is NOT on. Sounds like it may be.

That should do it.

No.

I have played around a little in Premiere and I do seem to remember that there was a setting that would specify seperate files.

I would definitely pursure the Premiere setting route. It would have nothing to do with Windows.
