Captures have Real Player associations

Hi all,

I am VERY new to video editing and VMS. After converting several Hi8 tapes to digital via a Canopus 110 and then to my computer, I find that all captured files (avi) are now associated with Real Player and have the Real Player logo as part of the files folder title.

How does this happen? Can I do something to NOT have this happen when capturing and can I do anything to "de-associate" the captures after they have been uploaded to tje computer?

If Real Player is designated to play your files when you open up a video file, it will probably call them "their own". You could try this: open up Real Player, then Tools>Preferences>Content>Media Type, and then uncheck everything.

Real set itself up as the default player for .AVI files. Not a problem; don't worry about it. Otherwise, if it really bugs you, change the file association using Real Player (as the last reply suggests) or using Windows Explorer.

I felt what you guys said might be what's going on, but wasn't sure. Glad to hear that just because Real Player thinks it owns the files, that it won't be a problem in actuality.

I REALLY dislike the "pushiness" of Real Player, as it sems to try to grab LOT's of things! Should just uninstall it!

RealPlayer isn't as bad as it seems, and it's certainly a lot better than it used to be. It only takes two extra mouse clicks when installing it to tell it not to grab everything. You just have to remember to do them when installing. There's also an options screen that lets you tell it to reliquish everything and that works pretty well.

I don't bother with it anymore. It was a great solution for web video for a while. Today it's pretty moot and useless.
