Capturing

I'm in the process of learning Vegas 5. I've been using Studio for the last two years and have always captured with Scenalyzer.
Will Vegas be able to detect scene detection done by Scenalyzer?
Would I still need to set the time and date in my camcorder if capture is done using Scenalyzer? I had read here that Vegas would not detect scenes unless the camcorder's time and date were set.
Would I bring the captured avi into Vegas via the Media Pool or drag from the Explorer window?

Thanks...I learn fast...please bear with me. I've been doing some basic editing, but only with small clips so far.

Lots of us Vegas editors use Scenalyzer. Do a search on this forum and see.

Once it's captured onto the hard disk, Vegas doesn't care how it got there.

Why would you NOT want to set the clock? Scenalyzer also breaks based on jumps in date/time UNLESS you explicitly tell it to use optical scene detection. However, the date/time method will be more accurate.

If setting the clock accurately is too annoying, note that it doesn't need to be set to the correct time. It just needs to be running. As with VCRs that flash -12:00- all the time, your camcorder's clock won't run until it's set. However, scene detection doesn't care about the correct date/time, it only cares about gaps in the date/time. All you need to do is enter the set function and then exit it. Your camera won't have the correct time, but the clock will now be running and you'll get proper scene detection.

Of course, if you go to this much effort, setting the clock to the correct time hardly seems like much more effort.

Obviously still lots to learn. I've never set the clock on either of my camcorders because I never wanted the time and/or date displayed on the captured avi...so I'm getting the feeling here that it's not necessarily true that the time and date will display just because they're set. Obviously I've always relied on optical scene detection.

The Date/Time will NOT display on the capture DV-AVI files.
