If your friend still has the project file that he/she used to create the animation (not just the final .swf file), then he/she should be able to load it into whatever software was used to create it and save it as a .avi file for you.

There's kind of a clunky way to do it if you have Quicktime Pro. You can import the Flash and save it as .avi or .mov, but without the sound. You would then have to record the sound and add it back to your project. Works OK, but not ideal.

Assuming you don't have the source, there are some apps expressly for decompiling swf files and getting the video or image files out. Alternatively, might try to a screen capture (like with winmedia encoder 9) while playing the animation.

Thanks Chienworks, musicvid, and mikkie. I upgraded to Quicktime Pro for $30 and imported the SWF as an AVI. It worked great. One question to mikkie. Can you actually capture screen movement with Winmedia encoder 9? I couldn't find Winmedia encoder 9 in Google, is this the same as Windows Media Player? I think it would be great to be able to capture the movement on my monitor. Can you explain this a little more?
