capturing audio

is there a preference that allows the user to adjust the volume of the audio that is being captured?

If you are capturing DV then all you get is a direct file transfer from the tape to the hard drive. No adjustments of any kind are possible.

If you are capturing analog and using your computer's sound card to capture the audio then use the standard mixer control panel for your sound card to adjust the level.
