capturing audio from tuner card

Ok… I’m new to the Vegas 4 game here, but I need some help with capturing audio from, I guess, my tuner card… the problem is that I’m able to capture the video but it comes with no sound… I’ve tried to get the Vegas 4 capture feature to take the audio from the tuner card but the program doesn’t even give me the option, all that is listed under the audio heading in the capture feature is my sound card… does this make any sense and if so what should I do?

It's unlikely that the tuner card actually has physical audio inputs. Normally the audio would already be part of the TV signal.

My TV card manual says that if I want to record video using the video input I have to set up the software to use the system's existing sound card to capture the audio portion.

hey thanks for responding... ok i don't exactly understand... i didn't get a manual with my tv card because the tv card came prepackaged with the computer so i'm working with little resourses.. but let me explain what i'm doing.. when i capture with vegas 4 i'm selecting "conexant 2388x" under the video heading... then below that i select "video capture properties" and then that opens and i select "tuner" and then i get tv images in the preview box but no sound... in fact i get no sound when i try to capture from my analog devices as well, just the images.. so what you're saying is that i need to reconfigure my sound card? any idea as to how i do that? am i missing driver or a codec?

Can you tell me more about how you connect your video device to the tuner card?

i don't connect my video device to my tuner card... but i think my capture card and my tuner card are the same thing? is that possible? my capture card is listed in my hardware like this: conexant 2388x (phillips 1236 mk3).... i do connect my video device to my capture card via rca wires and i've also tried to run the sound rca wires into the sound card with an adaptor... when i do that i get sound out of the speakers but the program still doesn't record it.

I have a Winfast 2000 TV tuner card. My card has an audio "out" that gets connected to my Audio cards "line in", that is how i get my sound while watching tv and for recording.
it works fine. There IS an option in the TV card software to monitor right off the TV card and it works for listening, but NOT for recording, the sound is lost.

yeah my tuner card has no audio "out" that i can see, so i don't think i can do the same thing you do.. but the strange thing is that in this showbiz video editing program that i have, i can capture off the tuner card and it gets the audio, so i know it can be done.. just can't figure out how to do it in vegas. i would just use this other program to do all my capturing but it immediately transcodes everything to mpeg-2 format.. i don't want that.

Did you try posting this in the Vegas Video Forum? Although you're talking audio this really has to do with video and capturing.
