Capturing EX1 without SxS cards?

I'm interested in getting an EX1. If I connect a firewire cable to it, can I use Sony's capture utility to capture straight into the computer? If so, will it capture as mxf of m2t files? I've been doing alot of green screen lately, capturing in Vegas and keying in AE, and I need to upgrade my DV camera. Thanks

In SP mode the EX1 outputs regular HDV out the firewire port which you could capture directly I'd imagine. I've certain recorded the signal to regular HDV on tape with the M15 VCR.
I don't think the EX1 will playback over firewire from the SxS cards though.

Bob, I just edited my initial post and was wondering your thoughts on getting an EX1 (outputting an HDV signal) against an HDV (Z1 etc) camera doing green screen work. Is there a significant quality between the two? I've been using Keylight in AE for my chromakey work and I understand AE cannot read Sony mxf files so I'm stuck with HDV.

For CK the big advantage of the EX1 might be recording 4:2:2 from the HD SDI port. In general though it depends on what you're delivering, HD or SD?

I'll check for you tonight, pretty certain I've opened EX1 footage in the latest AE. It sure works wonderfully in Ppro, can't imagine therefore why it wouldn't in AE but ya never know.

Expect AE to handle the mxf format shortly.
