Capturing from Tv-Newbie question

I have completed the process of converting all my old VHS video tapes to DVD's.

So, I have extra memory, a digital camcorder that I use in the conversion, a firewire card, VideoFactory software, DVD burner, etc.

Question I now want to play around and record something from tv. I know I could do it by recording to VHS and then going through the entire capturing and converting process, but is there another way? Could I record a tv program directly to my computer and then put it on DVD??

I have read little about TiVo, but I am a newbie here.

How about going from the A/V outputs on your VCR to the digital camcorder's A/V inputs and capturing directly that way? You shouldn't have to use tape at all.

I have an Hauppauge WinTV card in my computer. Hooked up like this: Cable from wall -----> VCR -----> WinTV card. I can capture right from a TV program, or from a VHS tape.
