Capturing HDV into one file, not multiple

Joseph Sassone wrote on 4/11/2006, 3:57 AM
I've been using Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 6.0 to capture HDV off of my HDR-HC1, and for some reason, it insists on splitting the m2t files into multiple chunks that don't seem to correspond to scene, or date, or anything useful.

* Is there any way to set it up so that the HDV tape is captured as a single file? I've looked at all the preferences, none seem to affect file splitting.

* Is there any (easy) way to combine the m2t files into a single m2t file without loss of quality? I know HDV Split can split files based on scene, what I want to do is just the opposite - glom together one large file.

Thanks for any advice.

Joseph,

i have been using my Sony HDR-HC1 for several months now with Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 6.0a - with no capture interruptions like you are having. Have you downloaded the 6.0a update? If so, you may want to try uninstalling and reinstalling Vegas so the default settings are engaged.

Your m2t files will show in your project media window and dragging them to your timeline and putting them end to end is simple. If there are no dropped frames the flow will be continuous, just as you filmed it.

You can also split the first section at an appropriate point and drag the second section into the first creating a transition. You can render that combination and save it to your hard drive and then bring it back up, into your program, by clicking file and import media.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your input. I have the latest version, 6.0a Build 85.

As it stands, I gave up on this software and used HDVSplit to capture the 7 HDV tapes I have now - no capture interruptions with this freeware!

I guess I'll wait a couple months and see if this bug gets fixed. I noticed at least one other user suffering from the same bug (it's got to be a bug - there's no logic to it).

I'm basically just making archive copies of the tapes at this point, I'll worry about splitting the scenes later after BluRay-Writable disks (or whatever) are released.

Anyway, thanks again for the input. Anyone else suffer from this or discover a solution?

Joseph, have you tried calling Sony and talking to a tech/programmer. the normal CS probably won't get you anywhere.

Or, send them an email (from Support) with your system particulars, AND the fact that HDVSplit does work with no interruptions...

While Sony folks do look over this forum at times, I'm not sure a bug will get fixed unless you hit em upside the head with a 2x4! :)

good luck, ron
