capturing jpegs from video

Ok Grazie.. I took your advice and am playing around. sooooooo here's my very first real to goodness VF question.. ;-) ;-)

Is there a way for me to capture a jpeg off of a video clip?

In Video Wave, I could put a clip in the cutting room preview window and extract an image, place it on my clipboard and paste it into my photo editing program (Photo Impact)

This is something that I really used allot, so I'd like to be able to do it in VF. I've looked around the tuts and the help menue..maybe I'm missing something?

Can you help?

tia,
Jill

Jill,
Place the clip on the timeline, go to the frame you want a snapshot of (use the arrow keys on the keyboard to navigate by frame), in the preview window on the bottom right, click the little disk (save icon) just above the window, and give your jpeg image a name and location. Chazaam! You've done it!
Happy Editing,
Randy

Jill,
Now click on the little FX box on the picture (assume you have placed it on the timeline). Then click on the Pan/Crop tab. Look in the upper right corner, note that it says start. Click on the lower left corner of the frame and drag it to the right so that it's almost off the page. Click on the end box. Then, go down and click on the lower right corner of the frame and drag it to the left corner (looks like the frame is almost off of the page) and release. Now, click on the play arrow in the FX box (lower left). Watch the preview window. Notice how your picture travels across the window. Apply the same technique to move up or down and to pan in and out. Have fun.

wiscoy,

When you want to save a still, put your cursor in the preview window, right-click, and select "Display at Project Size." This will give you a much higher quality still when you save it. Enjoy!

JIll - Sorry didn't fill in the technical gaps - but have spent today hassling with my Ford. It seems the timing belt has gone... Yuck!

Anyways Jill - have fun. The more you play around with VF the more and more you will find is possible.

Grazie

Jill, glad you are having fun, VF is such a pleasure compared to VW. And this forum rules!

Grazie, sorry to hear about your timing belt...before you get it fixed, make sure that when the belt went out, it did not mess up your valve train! Unfortunatley, it could be more expensive than you think. Sorry for what could be bad news, but I've been there before with a car of mine.

I have a friend that works at Ford if you have any questions.

JOn - yeah I've considered that, ALL at the time when it happened! YUCK!

Bent valves, scratched and ruined valve guides; cylinder surfaces ruined; bits of metal floating around the oil/lubrication system; ruined top and/or bottom ends and gugeon pin/s sleeving etc etc..... The other real financial pain I'm going to have to take on board is that it is/was a superb desiel. AND it's coming up to the holidays. ARRRRrgh!

I'm really pissed! It was going into to have it its regular service within 3 days! DO you think cars know are aware ot this? Are they "other" beings?

Jon thanks for you showing your concerens and you "offer" of your Ford contact. Yer never know!

Hell! It's only money - yeah right!

Pray for me people...

Regards

Grazie

Ahhh...Grazie I know what you are going through...Uffdaa! I'm having some problems with my car also (Cadillac). Bad timing for me also.

At least you got your new Cammy before your car crapped out!! Hopefully you will still be able to upgrade to Vegas!

Yea, its only money...we can always make more, right?

Good luck, Jon

Stiffy - can I call you that? - You are absolutely correct. Cars can be mended - People can't. Yeah? - Thank you for your heart felt response. Spoke with my gagrage mechanic of 20 years, he spelt out the dismal options - which I knew, Ugh!

And yes you are right. My cammy is a real bonus. Can't stop thinking I might have put off the moment until the car was fixed. And YES, dammit... I WILL take the "Route 66" to VV - Does Route 66 go to Vegas? Trying to remember the "stops on the way" from the Stones number!

D'y know what Stiffy - this Forum is good for all types of "Support" - Thanks again, truly much appreciated.

Grazie.

Now where is my application for BT Broadband?
