capturing problem

I know I have already asked this question and I am sorry for asking it again, but I couldn't find my old post.

I am having trouble capturing video. When I go to capture video I get this message.

The device 'SMRT Capture' could not be opened.
Please make sure that it is turned on and is not being used by another application or user

I know I got this message the last time I captured video, but someone out there was brilliant enough to help me figure out what was going on.

I send out a plea for the next brilliant person to step up and rescue me again.

Capturing comes up so often and is confused by the Vegas vs external capture utilities, DV vs HDV and scene detection or no, etc etc., might I suggest that Spot (if you want something done ask the busy man) write a quick tutorial on this as a sticky?

The BEST solution... connect the camera to the computer via FIREWIRE. That will give you better quality and a much more trouble-free connection.
