capturing-problems with videofactory 2.0

digitizer wrote on 9/17/2001, 4:46 AM
When I try to capture digital-video with the new capture-programm from videofactory 2.0 I always get the message: "No video was captured". any other functions are working normal, the older capture program from vidfactory 1 is working too, other capture-programs (ulead or pinnacle) are working also. where is the problem with the new version? I have a sony digital-camcorder (pal) and a OHCI-compliant IEEE-1394 DV capture card.

For digitizer: I have the same problem. Using Adobe Premiere 6 I captured a lot of videos without any problems but after discovering videofactory 2.0 I found it easyer. Just impossible to capture... What is wrong?

For SonicJon: I tried to go to the page you suggested, but under Video Capture update (2.0 h) there is written that videofactory 2.0 users don't have to download this update because it is already fixed on videofactory 2.0

Emilio: download the 2.0c update for Video Factory. This contains the newest version of Video Capture. The separate video capture 2 that you see listed there is obsolete.

Chienworks: thank you for reply. I did it. On the capture window bar there is written "Microsoft DV and Camera VCR", I can use device controls and also timecode works well. I can also preview, but when I start capture the preview window become black and no frames are captured. After that no previews are available until I restart windows.

I am having what may be a related problem. I am using a Canopus AVDC-100 to convert Analog input from a VCR into digital data. The ADVC-100 is connected to a Adaptec 1394 card.

When I start the video capture portion of the program, and hit play on the VCR, the program detects the ADVC-100/VCR combo as a "Microsoft DV and Camera VCR". I get a good preview display, but most of the time, no capture. When I try to click on any of the controls in the capture screen, all I get is the "Windows door chime" sound that tells me that my mouse clicks are being ignored.

The only way I have been able to get the software to capture has been to toggle the analog/digital switch on the ADVC-100 until the pogram displays the "TAPE CHANGE DETECTED" message. Once this message is displayed, I select the first option, which is "Don't capture any video now" (or something very similar).

Having done that, I am able to access the CAPTURE VIDEO and STOP buttons in the capture program screen, and I am able to capture what appears to be good video.

I am a new VF user, and have struggled a bit to get this far.

I suspect this problem may have something to do with the program trying to control what it mistakenly identifies as a controlable digital device. There has to be a right way to do this; but if there is a setup option that deals with this, the documentation fails to make it clear to me. Can anyone shed some light on this?

I have read that VF is not compatible with the Mojave capture device. In fact no software but Dell's VW is compatible with the Mojave capture device. What people have said they are doing is to capture with VW then take the captured files over to VF to do the editing and producing. Therefore use VW for capturing and VF for the editing and producing.

Welcome to the club!!! I just bought 2.0C off the web and I can't wait to take the plunge. Lucky for me I never bought the Mojave capture device. i just bought the standard $50.00 IEEE card, which works fine with VF.( At least it seems.... Although I haven't done any capturing, but I am told through this site that it will work.)

kcaroll,

In the capture program, goto Option/Preference and uncheck "Enable DV device control".

I think this is documented in the VF capture readme file.

Oh Yeah, I failed to mention in my post that I threw away the Dazzle Mojave Device and the MGI software. (It felt good, even with the financial loss.)

The Adaptec card I am using is one of their 1394/USB2 combinations. It seems to work well.

My problem is that I get a lot of source video in analog format, so I need this converter/1394 setup to work.

jimcho, thanks for the reply.

I initially tried to access the "Options" button, but it too was unresponsive to mouse clicks. Maybe I can sneak up on it after doing the tape change trick.

I didn't see that item in the readme files. I probably missed it: I'll look again.
